CINEMA SEEN - "Making Her Mark!"
By William Margold

Tis’ the season…or something like that!
And so it's time to deal with a Cinema Seen column that should ignite the feeling of “goodwill toward your fellow man”…or something like that!
Quite frankly the only thing I've ever liked about this time of year, is the fact that someone perversely shortened Christmas to Xmas a while back…thereby glorifying my favorite letter in the alphabet in the process.
But every once in awhile, there comes a moment when the elements of life collide in a manner which makes one feel a twinge of the “cheer” that can warm the heart and soul of even most the curmudgeonly.
Therefore, in a genuinely odd way to combine mention of two fairly recent productions: UNTIL THE NIGHT (http://www.pathfinderpictures.com) and LIVING THE DREAM (http://www.rover-films.com), I'm going to tell you a story about one of the actresses who appears in both features---the lovely Sean Young.
Back in September 2003, I was called upon by Gregory Hatanaka, the director of "Until The Night" to bring a few Adult Industry actresses to be “attractive extras” in the “Hollywood Party” sequence of his production. Of course, the carrot he dangled in front me was that I could be in the film as well---in the role of “a pompous producer.” Braying my delight to be “on display, I was even more thrilled that I could provide an exhibitionistic opportunity for a couple of my favorite “kids”---so I reached out to Anita Cannibal and Lizzy Law---and all of us ventured up into the Hollywood Hills above the Bronson Caves, to spend a Saturday afternoon playing Hollywood Party-goers.
Of course, because my “kids” aren't cut from shy cloth when there is a camera around, and because this was supposed to be a "happening" affair, it came as no surprise that Cannibal and Lizzy eventually wound-up in an amusing hot tub frolic, wherein being topless was the appropriate wardrobe (or lack of same) of the day.
Gregory had sweetened the pot even more for me by announcing that he was bringing in Sean Young to be a special guest star.” Having been smitten (and more) by her skirt flouncing charm with Kevin Costner in 1986's "No Way Out"---I was really was looking forward to meeting her.
And so were my lady friends.
And when they did manage to find her in a calmer moment, the beauteous Ms. Young was extremely gracious, and seemed genuinely touched by the fact that they each wanted to have their picture taken with her. After they posed, I overcame an unusual attack of shyness long enough to mark down their names down on one of my cards, along with colorful (blue/Anita---orange/Lizzy) reminders of what each of them was wearing, and hand it to Sean in the hope that perhaps she would find the time to send back autographed copies, which I'm sure would make my “kids” feel very special.
And within less than two weeks, that was exactly what Ms. Young did.
When I gave Anita and Lizzy their shots, the grins on their faces were even more delighted than that they are beaming in the shots of them that are so glowingly radiating from this page. And Sean was wise enough to send me two copies of each shot, signing only one, so that, in fact, I'd be able to use the unsigned images here.
It was then that I decided that when the circumstances were "right"---I would create a column in which I could thank Sean Young for her graciousness…and remarkable foresight.
So when I was sent a screener of "Living The Dream"---and noticed that Sean was starring in it---I decided that the time couldn't be “righter.
Interestingly, both "Until The Night" and "Living The Dream" are rather rawboned, little or no frills examples of how various lost souls attempt to deal with trying to "make it" in Los Angeles…which richly deserves to also be known as "The City of Angles"---as angels don’t survive very well in smog…and soullessness.
However, as in the case of Sean Young's signing those shots, it takes such a real life experience to remind even one whose milk of human kindness is more curdle than cream, that some people are still very soulful, and that they are not too busy to take the time to brighten up a couple of other souls in the process…or something like that!
